    Understand the Salesforce Platform

Before any enhancements are made, it is important that one fully understands the Salesforce platform. Learn what it is, how to structure your code, and its core functionalities. Get to know gadgets, objects & relationships, and the Salesforce object model, Experience best-in-class cloud solutions like Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, and Marketing Cloud.

    Learn Apex and Visualforce

Apex is a programming language used by Salesforce users to write custom business logic and create customization applications. Mark up the language of salesforce as “VISUALFORCE”. By learning these 2 technologies you can build stronger and scalable solutions on the Salesforce platform.

    Trailhead — Go Hands-On

Trailhead is a free, online learning platform created by Salesforce which includes lots of hands-on tutorials or “Trails.” Trailhead — Developer Beginner Follow the following trail to start with Apex and Visualforce. Continue to My Trailhead and learn about Intermediate trials followed by more specialized material with Lightning Web Components, Salesforce DX & Integration using External System.

    Practice, Practice, Practice

As a Salesforce developer, hands-on work is the best source of practice. Create your developer org (a free, non-production environment) and start building custom applications, triggers, or visual force pages. Join online communities such as the Salesforce Developer Community where you ask or share questions and ideas with many others.

    Get Certified in Salesforce

Salesforce certifications are highly regarded in the industry and can authenticate your abilities and expertise. Begin with the Salesforce Certified Platform Developer I (PDI) credential, which is an exam that evaluates your skills concerning Apex, Visualforce, and other general concepts of development in Salesforce. If you get more experience, go for higher-level certifications like Platform Developer II or domain-specific certification (Marketing Cloud, Einstein Analytics).

    Participate in Open-Source Projects

One of the best ways to practice and improve your programming skills is by contributing to open-source projects on platforms like GitHub. I suggest picking up some open-source projects and start contributing to them (fixing bugs, adding new features, or improving documentation that always helps). Search for Salesforce related opensource improvements

    Stay Up-to-Date

Salesforce has rolling new features and updates (Spring release, Summer Release, Winter Releases) many times a year. Gain an education in these releases, attend Salesforce events and webinars regularly to understand the delta of technology over time & adjust with best practices.

    Build a Professional Network

Networking is crucial in any industry, and Salesforce makes no exception. Local user group meetings, Online Communities, and other developers, etc. on LinkedIn These people may have some interesting things to teach you, jobs for you or they might end up being good strategies, they can offer important lessons, and job prospects and help navigate your journey.

    Think About Freelancing or Consulting

While you’re on the path of a full-time Salesforce developer, you can at least think about freelancing or consulting. These can help you gain practical skills, build up your portfolio, and create long-term clients as job opportunities. They may not always pay much, but they can give you your first bit of real work experience

    Final Thoughts

Becoming a Salesforce Developer requires commitment, continuous learning, and hands-on experience. However, with the right mindset, resources, and persistence, you will find many exciting career prospects in the expanding Salesforce world.

Stay curious and engaged with the Salesforce community while honing your skills. Your role as a Salesforce developer will be fundamental in assisting companies to leverage the power of the entire Salesforce platform through building custom applications automating business processes and integrating systems. You are now ready to become a successful Salesforce developer with all your hard work and dedication.
